(PAA) Taylor Acorn has never been afraid to put the feelings we'd rather keep hidden into words. On her new single, "Growing Pains," the Nashville-based singer-songwriter confronts an uncomfortable reality: growing up doesn't necessarily mean leaving behind the insecurities, anxieties, and self-doubt you thought you'd have figured out by now.
The latest preview of Poster Child Deluxe, due October 23 via Fearless Records, finds Acorn looking back at the uncertainty she felt at 13 and recognizing pieces of that same kid in herself today. "Thought I'd be happy in my own skin by now," she admits, before arriving at the song's painful truth: maybe we're never really too old for growing pains.
Melancholy and introspective, the track feels both fresh and familiar. Understated production gives Acorn's vocals and storytelling room to take center stage, while a steady pulse underneath heightens the emotion. Her vocal moves between quiet vulnerability and aching intensity, capturing the fear of being judged, feeling uncomfortable in your own skin, and wondering why everyone else seems to have figured out something you haven't.
Acorn has spoken candidly throughout her career about mental health and the harder realities behind the music, making "Growing Pains" feel especially personal. Rather than offering easy answers, the song finds comfort in admitting that healing isn't linear, adulthood doesn't come with a roadmap, and struggling with something you thought you'd left behind doesn't mean you haven't grown.
"Growing Pains is a favorite of mine. I think it's such a universal feeling to want to grow up and grow out of the feelings we feel when we are young. I remember thinking to myself 'man I can't wait to be an adult to never have to feel like this' whenever it came to loss, the way I saw myself in the mirror, relationships, school, and so on - but oh boy was I so wrong," shares Taylor.
"I love my life and I feel so grateful for where I stand NOW, but it has been so far from a walk in the park. Life is hard. The older you get the shorter the days are, the less time you have, and I feel like I've extended myself in so many ways for so many years it feels impossible sometimes to keep my head above water and having to be so present online can feel so dehumanizing. I am human though, we all are, we all have bad days and struggle and I think that's a beautiful thing. Without that you simply cannot grow."
"Growing Pains" follows "Isn't It Strange," Acorn's stunning recent collaboration with singer-songwriter Knox and the first taste of Poster Child Deluxe. Where "Growing Pains" turns inward, "Isn't It Strange" finds beauty in life's unexpected turns, celebrating the strange chain of events that can transform heartbreak into healing and complete strangers into the people who change your life. Acorn and Knox trade perspectives across the track before their voices come together for its soaring final chorus.
Together, the new songs begin to reveal another chapter of the story Acorn created on Poster Child. Across the original album, she explored people-pleasing, insecurity, relationships, self-sabotage, healing, and the ongoing work of figuring out who you are. The deluxe edition extends that narrative rather than simply adding to it, finding Acorn a little further down the road but still willing to admit she doesn't have everything figured out.
Fresh off a European run supporting All Time Low, Acorn will continue bringing her magnetic live show to audiences this fall, appearing at Ceremony Festival in Nashville on October 17 before joining State Champs for their U.S. headline tour beginning November 5 in Allentown, PA.
