Old 97's Rhett Miller Shares New Solo Single' Wasted Time'
(PR) Rhett Miller, frontman of the Old 97's and acclaimed singer-songwriter, has released his new solo single, "Wasted Time," via Maximum Sunshine Records.
Miller wrote the song with his friend, Nashville-based songwriter and producer Johnny Black. "Wasted Time" began with a simple lyric idea Black brought to the session, one that Miller found profoundly resonant with his own experience. The song came together quickly, and by the end of the day, they had a finished recording.
"Johnny Black and I got together one day in Nashville to write a song and he had an idea for a lyric about wasted time not being wasted time. I was in a mood, maybe even at a point in my life, when that sentiment really resonated. The song happened so quickly after that. I love the powerful dynamism of the music on the track so much. It starts as a lament and winds up a triumph."
Musically, "Wasted Time" reflects that transformation, beginning from a place of reflection before building toward something bigger and more hopeful. The track pairs Miller's unmistakable songwriting voice with a dynamic, driving arrangement that mirrors the emotional arc of the lyric.
The single marks the latest chapter in Miller's prolific solo career and the revival of Maximum Sunshine Records, the imprint through which the release will arrive. The single was also recently featured in Season 8 of the hit ABC television series The Rookie, further bringing Miller's music to a national television audience.
Known for his work with the Old 97's as well as a celebrated solo catalog, Miller has spent more than three decades establishing himself as one of American music's most distinctive songwriters.
